Building Activity

June 1924

Mexborough & Swinton Times – Saturday 14 June 1924

At present there is a good deal of building activity. Progress is being made with the second Council houses on the Daylands site, whilst work has been commenced in the projected scheme of the Conisborough Housing Association, which is to give us four or five hundred additional houses.

Last week a bungalow of original design was commenced on a site on Park Road, with an aspect which provides a magnificent view over miles of country towards Clifton. This last has been approved by the Council to qualify for the subsidy under the Housing Act of 1923.

I believe that this bungalow is the only one of the six chances offered to be accepted up to date, so would-be applicants will have to get a move on, as the time limit for construction expires next year. A decided asset to building under this scheme is the advice which the Council Surveyor, Mr. H. Thirlwall, is ready to give. He will offer suggestions before the drawing of the plans, and he supervises the construction of the building, all materials having to satisfy his conditions and inspection.
