Old Folks’ Treat.
There was a good and jolly company in the concert room at the Denaby Main Hotel on Monday, when the knife and fork tea given to the “old folks” of Conisborough and Denaby was held and was a high success, thanks to the splendid organisation of Mr. T. Oxley (secretary), and Mr. W. G. Gibbs, the caterer. One hundred and fifty-three people sat down to a substantial repast.
After tea the old ladies were presented with a packet of tea and the old men with a packet of tobacco. A prize was offered for the oldest lady in the room. This was won by Mrs. Feeney, who was 81 years last Christmas. Mrs. A. Hirst (81 years March), and Mrs. Bryan (81 years in July) were also awarded prizes.
In the evening Mr. H. C. Harrison presided over a concert programme. He was supported by Mr. H. Hulley, Mr. T. Oxley and Mr. W. Astbury. The following artists contributed to the programme: Miss Spencer and Messrs. J. Debney, R. Hunter, I. Oldfield, M. Hobson, J. White, N. Davis, and J. Kitchen. Mesdames E. Smith and S. Scholefield were the accompanists.
