On the Railway.
Picking Cinders on Good Friday
Five persons from Denaby were summoned for trespassing on the Great Central Railway at Mexboro’ on April 10th. They were: Joe Hoyland, miner; James Henshaw, miner; Jas. Drummond, pony driver; Margaret Drummond, married; and Hilda Walton, single.
Mr. Arthur Hall appeared for the company.
P.C. Ellis said that at 11-30 a.m. on Good Friday he was on duty on the Great Central Railway, between Mexboro’ Station and Denaby Crossing, in company with Frank Lee, porter. He there saw the accused on the railway line, picking cinders, etc.
When witness went towards them the woman Drummond crossed the line towards the others, and appeared to say something to them. They then went off the railway to the road leading to Old Denaby. Witness asked them for their names and addresses, which they gave.
Witness told them he would report them to the railway authorities for trespassing.
Frank Lee, the railway porter, gave evidence.
Hoyland and Henshaw were fined 10s. inclusive, James Drummond 8s. 6d. inclusive, and Margaret Drummond and Walton 9s. 6d. inclusive.
