End of Futile Struggle

The strike at the Cadeby Colliery was officially terminated on Tuesday, three weeks after its commencement.
The men held a meeting on Sunday and resolved to request their leaders to re-open negotiations for a settlement. This was effected on Tuesday on the terms offered to the men before they came out.
The question of dismissing non-union labour was raised, but the management insisted that all the men should be signed on without distinction.
A number began work on Wednesday, and a few more on Thursday, but the process of signing on, with 2,400 men and boys involved, is necessarily lengthy, and will not be completed until to-day.
No coal will be raised before next Wednesday, the pit being closed for the Whitsuntide holiday.
The terms of settlement are to operate for an experimental period of two months, any dispute arising in the meantime to be referred to arbitration.
The Maltby Main branch of the Yorkshire Miners’ Association sent £50 for the alleviation of distress arising out of the dispute.
