Savings Committee
When Conisbrough Savings Committee and all sub-committees met on Friday, the treasurer (Mr. T. C. Campbell) gave some interesting facts regarding the cost of all the savings campaigns held at Conisbrough since the outbreak of war. Coun. D. Sheldon presided.
So far, Conisbrough has raised £445,830, and the campaign cost, including the major efforts of War Weapons Week, Warship Week, Wings for Victory Week, and the ten weeks’ Tanks for Attack campaign, has only been £109 3s. 7d., representing slightly less than 4s. 11d. per £1,000 raised.
This low proportion is possible only by the fact that all the work of organisation (correspondence, accountancy, publicity and collections, etc.) is done entirely voluntarily by people with public spirit and enthusiasm for the cause.
The secretary (Mr. E. Dabbs) gave final figures for the recent Wings for Victory campaign, explaining that of the £83,927, which was Conisbrough’s total for the week, £32,852, or about 44 per cent., came from small investments.
