Tables Turned

Late Frickley Stand Fails

Denaby obtained revenge over Frickley, winning by over 50 runs, but the victory was not as easily gained as the score suggests.

Frickley lost nine wickets for 104 runs, then Norman Hammond, taking his debut with the club, and Martin made a stand for 40 minutes to add another 58 runs, the latter being eventually lbw to Dickinson with only five minutes to go. Martin hit five boundaries. Apart from these two only Ward offered any resistance to the Denaby bowling, which up to the fall of the ninth wicket was good.

Ward’s 30 included six fours. For once in a while Allen, the Denaby stumper, had an off day. He might have claimed at least two more victims besides running two out.

Dickinson revealed his best form since joining the club, taking 4 for 16 and might have done more damage had he been kept on longer at first. Robinson finished with 4 for 60.

Denaby did not bat well, for with only one on the board Greenwood was bowled by Dyson for 5. Wainwright was then joined by Wright and the pair put on 97 for the second wicket, Wright being bowled by Burkinshaw when only five short of his fifty.

Robinson, who was out for 3, was never comfortable, but Foster helped in a stand of 53 when Wainwright, who had given two previous chances, snicked a shot into the hands of Smith after making 97, which included 12 fours and one six.

Mountney for once failed to score. Criddle defended well for his 13. Dickinson was run out through trying to steal runs. After 2½ hours Denaby declared at 218 for 8.

Burkinshaw claimed 5 for 46 and Dyson 2 for 45.
