Damaging Windows At Cadeby
Samuel Hinchcliff, George Edward Shaw, Wm. Brown, John Thos. Hinchcliff, and Harold Briggs, miners, of Conisboro’, were summoned for damaging windows at Cadeby, on 10th July.
Mr. Baddiley prosecuted on behalf of the Denaby Collieries, Ltd., and said defendants were charged with damaging the windows of a cottage belonging to the Denaby Main Colliery Co., in the Cadeby Colliery yard. It appeared the defendants were there on the Sunday evening, and were seen to throw stones at the cottage, and break the windows. A great amount of damage was done by these mischievous lads, and although many had been summoned for similar offences it appeared to have no effect on them.
Joseph Dobbs, a watchman in the employ of the Colliery Company, proved the case.
The boys, who appeared, protested their innocence, stating that the damage was caused by some youths about 18 years of age, who broke the windows with fishing rods.
Shaw and Brown were fined 2s. 6d. and 6s. 6d. costs, and the others 5s. and costs each, and damages.
