A Slack Meeting
Mr. Baker Resigns
The monthly meeting was held on Wednesday, Mr. W. Appleyard presiding. The other members present were Messrs. W. H. Jones, W. Tyas, J. Starr, J. Doran, S. C. Uroh, J. Brooke, and C. Bashforth, with the Clerk (Mr. Jesse Hill) and the Cemetery Curator (Mr. W. Hodgson).
Mr. Baker’s Resignation
The Clerk read a letter from Mr. H. Baker, a former member of the Council, tendering his resignation. It was couched in the following terms:—“To the Chairman and Members of the Conisboro’ Parish Council. I beg to resign my office as Parish Councillor for Conisboro’, and shall be glad to hear that the same is accepted. In taking my leave, I should like to express my thanks to the Clerk for all his courtesies, and to place on record my appreciation of his services and of those of his predecessor, Mr. Hawkesworth, during the long time I have had the honour of serving on the Council.—Faithfully yours, Henry Baker.”
On the motion of Mr. Brooke, supported by Messrs. Tyas and Uroh, the resignation was accepted, without comment.
A New Member
There was some discussion on the question of the election of an additional member of the Council, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. I. Gibbs.
Mr. Brooke said in his opinion the next man on the list should be elected. He thought the public understood that that was the procedure, and although it was not rigidly adhered to, he thought that was the general rule.
On the proposition of Mr. Jones, it was decided to place the matter on the agenda for the next meeting.
Street Lighting
Mr. Brooke proposed that the Council write to the Gas Company with reference to the insufficient lighting of lamps. This was agreed.
