Very Good Playing Season

The annual general meeting of the Denaby and Cadeby Cricket Club was held on Wednesday evening in the Denaby Welfare Institute. In the absence of Mr. H. C. Harrison, Mr. H. Hulley was the chairman. During the season Denaby have played 29 matches, won 12, lost 2, and drawn 15. They have scored 4,534 runs, and lost 180 wickets, making an average per wicket of 25.2. Their opponents’ score 3,048 runs for 205 wickets, an average of 14.8.

The leader of the first team bowling averages was G. T. Worthington, who bowled 187.3 overs at a cost of 507 runs and took 51 wickets, an average of 9.94. I. Greenwood was the leader of the batting averages, having scored 767 runs with an average of 42.61. His highest score was 111. In the Yorkshire Council, Denaby played 23 matches, won 10, lost 2, and drawn 11. They were never dismissed for less than a century, and have passed the second century seven times, and the third century, once. Their opponents were dismissed for less than a century six times, and they passed the second century only on four occasions.

The second team played 23 matches, won 8, lost 6, and drew 6. They scored 2,032 runs for 131 wickets, and their opponents scored 1,812 for 169 wickets.

F. Appleyard won the batting prize. He scored 114 runs and was five times not out. E. Wathey won the bowling prize with an average of 7.36. He took 17 wickets for 366 runs.

The following officials of the club were elected: Mr. W. H. Chambers, president; Mr. H. C. Harrison, captain of the first team, and Mr. G. L. Robinson vice-captain. Mr. E. Wathey, captain of the second team and Mr. B. Clarkson vice-captain. Mr. G. T. Worthington was re-elected secretary.
