The New Church-School at Denaby
Conclusion of the Opening Services
On Thursday of last week the dedication festival services in connection with the opening of the new Church-School at Denaby Main were continued. The service was conducted by the Rev. R. P. Roseveare, and the sermon was preached by the Rev. R. Lincey, curate of Wath. The choir sang several appropriate hymns, Mr. White, of Conisborough, presiding at the organ.
On Friday evening, the Rev. G. W. Goodall, vicar of Dalton, preached, the Rev. R. P. Roseveare again conducting the service. Appropriate hymns were sung, Mr. Beardsley acting as organist.
On Saturday evening, the Rev. R. P. Roseveare preached, and on Sunday at both services the church was well filled, the sermons and offertories being on behalf of the Sunday School. In the morning the Rev. R. P. Roseveare preached, and in the evening the Rev. Maurice Parkin, curate of Rotherham, in the absence of the Rev. R. Pym, preached an interesting sermon.
At the Sunday morning service the school children sang the hymn, “Loving Shepherd,” and at the evening service the choir sang the anthem, “Ye that dwell in the courts of the house of our Lord.” The band, which was reinforced by friends from Rotherham, and was under the conductorship of Mr. Moses Sear, played the “Hallelujah Chorus” at the end of the service. When the service was concluded the choir remained behind and sang, “Lead kindly light” in memory of Mr. Beardsley, the late organist of the church, who has been kind enough to come back from Denaby during the week and take part in the festival services.
The offertories on Sunday realised about two guineas.
