White Lane v. Conisboro’
To Congratulate Conisboro’
Upon the addition of a point to their score in the Mexboro’ League, is my pleasing privilege. Playing White Lane, at Chapeltown on Saturday, they contrived to draw the game not in their favour, it is true, but what does that matter?
White Lane batted first and knocked up 108 for eight wickets, Chambers, who made 37, and P. Pelly, who scored 32, being chiefly responsible. Indeed, the other batsmen only made a moderate show against the Conisboro’ bowlers.
White Lane declared, in the confident hope of rattling Conisboro’ out for a few runs, but it did not come off, and time arrived to find Conisboro’ still hanging on to life with six wickets down for 23 runs. They had therefore to divide the points, and they thoroughly deserved the one they gained.
At White Lane.

An Error.
In our laudable desire to give Conisboro’ credit for presumably having made a draw at White Lane the previous week, we find we were mistaken. The White Lane secretary did not send any official score, and the score appeared with Conisboro’ having only six wickets down. We came to the conclusion the game was a draw. The explanation is that Conisboro’ only could scrape seven men together to make the journey. Your lot is a bad one, my Conisboro’ friends; may there be better days in store for you is my best wish.
