Conisboro’ Cricket Club
A Miners’ Welfare Sports Scheme
The annual meeting of the Conisborough Cricket, Lawn Tennis and Bowls Club was held on Monday, Mr. Francis Ogle, J.P., presiding.
The attendance was poor and the meeting was eventually adjourned to January 19th.
The financial secretary, Mr. J. H. Rawding, junior, read the financial statement and the balance sheet. The income amounted to £220 11s. 6½d., including bar takings £255 17s. 8d., subscriptions £62, collections on the field realised £8, and three dances brought in £17. The expenditure leaves a balance in hand of £9 2s. 6d. The balance sheet showed a balance of £89 1s. over liabilities of £12 11s. 11d.
The Chairman commented on the favourable state of affairs, and complimented Mr. Rawding, whom he described as one of the oldest secretaries the club had ever possessed.
In connection with the election of officers Mr. Ogle stated that he had been president for twenty years, and thought that the office should go round, but he was asked to complete his “majority,” and was re-elected unanimously. Mr. W. Cresswell was re-elected secretary-steward, and Mr. J. H. Rawding was re-elected hon. financial secretary. Mr. Rawding remarking that when he took over the office he had borrowed from members £25 towards the purchase of the tennis pavilion, and that as there was still £7 to be repaid he would continue in office until this obligation was discharged. It was decided to postpone the election of section secretaries until the adjourned meeting.
Arrangements have been made for the first team to play again in the Doncaster League and application is to be made for membership of the South Yorkshire League for the reserve team, Mr. W. Lewis being appointed delegate for this league, and Mr. W. Lewis delegate for the Doncaster League.
Mr. H. Thirlwall, a vice-president of the club, mentioned that a Miners’ Welfare Scheme for Conisborough was in hand, and that an expenditure of £1,650 was authorised to purchase a site in Old Road, to be laid out for cricket, bowls, tennis, football and hockey. It was to be equipped with pavilions, heating, storage and dressing accommodation. These schemes had no connection with the cricket club, but it was worth mentioning so that amalgamation could be considered, and it will make no difference to the arrangements for the coming season. Mr. F. Ogle’s and Mr. H. C. Harrison are the trustees for the scheme.
