Gale Damage at Conisbrough
Tree Tilts on House
A huge sycamore tree was split early on Saturday morning by the gale which swept Conisbrough and the surrounding district last weekend, and forced onto the roof of one of the “Ladysmith Cottages” in Low Road, Conisbrough.
The tree had been growing for many years by the side of the end cottage, tenanted by Mr. and Mrs. C. Nestworthy. Mr. Nestworthy, who is employed by British Railways, was at work when the mishap occurred, but his wife said that she heard a “terrific crash” during the night but did not realise what had happened until the morning.
The tree did not break into the bedroom, but broke tiles, and reduced the chimney stack to a heap of rubble in the garden below.
There were no personal injuries.
