Vice-Captain’s Best

Of the 26 games played in the Council Denaby won 10 games, drew 6 and lost 7, while the remaining three were abandoned owing to inclement weather. The team scored 3,886 runs for 170 wickets, an average of 22.86, against their opponents’ 4,173 runs for 200 wickets, an average of 20.86.

E. Wainwright, the vice-captain, has had probably his best season, for in 22 innings he scored 700 runs, being not out four times, an average of 38.88. E. P. Robinson, the Yorkshire player, only made sixteen appearances owing to calls of the county, to score 461 runs for an average of 35.46, but he has the distinction of heading the bowling averages.

The reserves fared better in the Doncaster League, Division “B,” than last season, when having to seek re-election. Of the 18 games played 8 were won, 7 lost and 3 drawn. Joe Smith topped the batting averages with 247 runs in 12 innings and an average of 20.58, being closely followed by Jack Robinson with 275 runs in 14 innings, an average of 19.64. As expected Downing returned the best bowling average, 9.34.
