Denaby’s Shock

Denaby got a shock at Dore on Saturday, when their unbeaten record came very near disaster. Their batting was weak, and after Greenwood, Tibbles, Worthington and Robinson had gone, the following batsmen simply walked through the rest. Rarely have Denaby shown themselves the possessors of such a tail. The total of 139 was a poor one—it looked all the poorer when Gow and Branson got together after four Collegiate wickets had fallen. These two batsmen scored 73 runs while they were together, and before they were separated the Denaby total was almost within reach. When the end came, the home side, with half their wickets to fall, were only seven runs short of victory.

Denaby, for once, must reckon themselves fortunate to escape defeat. After their recent performances, it was rather a surprising exhibition, the most serious point about it being the batting weakness. Denaby must not rely too much on their good old players.
