140 Guests At Denaby Darby and Joan “Golden” Party
At 73, “Billy” Hingley of 138, Doncaster Road, Denaby, on Tuesday at his Golden Wedding party promised members of Denaby Darby and Joan Club, that he would live to be 100.
The Club had given the party specially for Mr. and Mrs. Hingley, and there were about 140 members present. Mr. and Mrs. Hingley were married in St Helen’s, Lancashire. Mr Hingley is a retired miner, He is a vice-president of the British Legion, former groundsman, “mascot” and committeeman of Denaby United F.C, former chairman of the Darby and Joan Club, and also of the Denaby Ambulance Club. He is now a life member of the Football Club.
Mr. and Mrs. Hingley have one daughter, Mrs. Lilian Farmer, and a grandson, Sydney Farmer.
Among the guests at the party, organised by Mrs. L Collins and the W.V.S. committee, were Mrs. G. S. Paling, area W.V.S. organiser, and Mrs. E. Meldrum of Doncaster. Mrs. Paling presented the couple with a plaid shawl from the W.V.S. Mrs. Collins also gave the couple a fountain pen, teapot, cheque and bouquet from club members.
Chairman was Mr. T. Smith and a vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. R. Ross.
