Mr. Archie MacKenzie Carlin, 70 years-old retired colliery house agent, died suddenly at his home at 47, Highfield Road, Conisbrough, last Friday.

Mr. Carlin, at one time an Independent member of Conisbrough Urban Council, and well-known as a keen cricketer and football player, had suffered a long illness. He had not, however, been confined to bed, and was in the garden of his home when he suffered the fatal heart attack.

Mr. Carlin, who for most of his working life, was house agent and bailiff for Denaby and Cadeby collieries, leaves a widow, Mrs. Mary Carlin, a married daughter, Mrs. Betty Peters, of Leeds, and a son, Mr. Roy MacKenzie Carlin, living at Bessacar.

Mr. Carlin came to Mexborough from South Kirkby in 1919, and moved to Highfield Road in 1929. He and his wife were married at Swinton Parish Church in 1922.
A well-known local sportsman, he played in goal at one time or another for both Barnsley and Mexborough Town, was a member of Mexborough, Denaby and Cadeby, and Later Tickhill cricket teams, and took a keen interest in golf as a member of the Hickleton Club.

During the last war Mr. Carlin served as Head Air Raid Warden and bomb reconnaissance officer in the Conisbrough district.
Cremation took place on Tuesday at Rosehill Crematorium, Doncaster. The Rev. G.F. Braithwaite officiated.
