His Pigeon
Ironical situation at Denaby

If a new heating system costing £180 is installed in a hut classroom at Balby Street School, Denaby, the system will be worth more than the building.

Mr. The. B. Stockdale (divisional education Officer) told last night’s meeting of Conisborough Primary School Managers that the County Heating Engineer had visited the hut and found that it was heated at present by an obsolete stove and two old type gas fires. As a result the engineer had suggested that three modern type stoves should be installed at a cost of £180.

Coun. D. Sheldon observed, “Why, that is more than the hut costs! But still children cannot learn when they are cold. It is his pigeon and he knows about this sort of thing.”
