First Case under the Spitting By Law.

Thomas Coffee, miner of Denaby was charged with spitting on the floor of the Doncaster West Riding Courthouse on 11 February.

Defendant, who was fined 2/6 for drunkenness the previous Saturday was seen by PCs Harrison and Whitely chewing tobacco and expectorating while sitting in his seat after the case had been heard.

The chairman said that it was a filthy habit. The bylaw had been extensively circulated being especially prominent in the courthouse.

As this was the first case brought before them under this bylaw defendant would be in the cost only 9/6
