Denaby cricket

Denaby and Cadeby – fourth in the South Riding League last season, and winners of the League the season before that – are perhaps one of the most consistent Council teams in the area.

The Denaby side have one of two bright prospects, all-rounder Tony Hough is one, but Denaby will be relying on the “old faces” as well – last season’s speed team, Dick Lawley and Neil Pearson, slow left arm Dick Cory, and all-rounders Norman Oakley and Malcolm Walker, and opening batsman Arthur Ellis.

Last season Denaby had a chance to be in the league play-off, but defeat in two vital matches late in the season robbed them of this chance.

“Things did not seem to run for us at the vital moments,” said President Mr. Herbert Foster. He said that the side had dropped one or two easy points last season – matches which they should have won. “You have got to play every match as though it were a Cup match,” he added.
