Denaby Outclassed at Home.
Denaby United 1 United Reserve 3
Denabyon Monday last were again on the losing side, when they met the United Reserve at home. This is the first occasion on which these two teams have met this season.
The reserves had a particularly strong team, and it was seen that Denaby were fairly outclassed.
In the first half Denaby managed to hold their end up leading at half-time by one goal to none. The home backs were very smart, and also the halfbacks and left wing.
The Reserves had several players who had been included in the first team. The first blood however fell to Denaby, who scored through T Hardy about 10 min after the start. The combination of the visitors, however, was splendid, and in the second half the home club were nowhere.
It was predicted that Denaby would win but the result showed the reverse. “Tim” Roper (the reservist, and Dean in goal, were included in the home team.
The weather was splendid, and about 500 spectators assembled. The home captain won the toss, and set his men to play with the wind and Sun at their backs.
A foul against Eley in the visitors goal let in Tom Hardy, who, with a low shot, scored the first goal of the match for Denaby.
From an attack on the left wing and following a scrimmage Bourne equalised and when half-time arrived the score stood: Denaby 1 goal; United Reserve 1 goal
The United Reserve added two more goals in the second half, the play towards the close was all in favour of the visitors.
