Denaby & Cadeby C.C. – Preview of Season

The Denaby and Cadeby club hope to have the brightest and best season of their career, and are prepared with a very effective side and Mr. H. C. Harrison will again captain the team, with W. Narroway the secretary and wicket-keeper, as vice-captain.

Other certainties are Ted Tibbles, Shoosmith, George Worthington Luther and Arthur Robinson, Jack Lyre, Leslie Hofton, Harry Atkin, Reg, Soar and Herbet Foster, of last years team.

The losses are J. B. White and W. Widdowson and J. Greig. Against these losses there is the acquisition of “Joby” Godfrey, the Denaby United full back, who is said to be a useful all-rounder, and Dick Coope the Denaby untited full back, who played for Frickley Colliery last year, and is likely to throw in his lot with Denaby.

There is also a possibility of other players of Yorkshire Council class being attracted. The club have one or two in view at the moment.

The Yorkshire Council season will be opened with three home matches. Bentley on the 13 th May. Bullcroft on the 20th and Pontefract on the 25 th .

The second team will, as usual, compete in the Doncaster League and they open today with a home match with South Kirkby. B. J. Hadfield is now captain of the second team, and Tim Peters, Vice.

In the Yorkshire Council fixtures have been arranged with Wath, Bullcroft, Frickley, Sheffield United. Sheffield Collegiate, Rotherham. Pontefract, South Kirkby and Castleford.

Very much to the disappointment of the Denaby club, no fixture has been arranged with Barnsley this year, and the match with Featherstone. Whitewood and Aekworth go out. The club has not renewed its entry to the “Mexborough times” Charity Cup a decision which we, personally, very much regret.

There will be the usual Whitsuntide tour Oxford via Mansfield and Leamington, and it has been left to Tom Hayward, who is now coach at Oxford, to arrange the three matches. There will also be a festival match at Denaby on Bank Holiday with Mansfield, a strong club, likely to provide very good cricket, though as a local holiday attraction, a game with a neighbouring club would probably have been more acceptable to local cricket enthusiasts.
