Conisbrough Celebration for G. F. S.

Members of Girls Friendly Societies in the Sheffield Diocese met at Conisbrough on Saturday for the society’s 90th birthday celebrations.

Nearly 180 members from Kilnhurst, Sheffield, Doncaster, Goole, Snaith, Chapeltown, Stannington and Henshall were welcomed by the Conisbrough G. F. S. Queen, Miss Margaret Best, who was attended by Mrs Jane Ball, Jenny Gregory and Mary Ford.

Before the Rev. G. F. Braithwaite, Vicar of Conisbrough, conducted a service in the Parish Church, Conisbrough, members staged entertainment.

Taking part were Janet Robinson, and Julia Margaret Best, Lynn Savile, Margaret Sturdy, Jenny Gregory, Jane Ball, Mary Ford, Helen Turner, Joy Brook, Jennifer Garside, Glynis Waite, Janice Saville, Jean Stevenson, Jacqueline Holt, Janet Knowles, Edith and Susan Best, Edna Jackson, Julie Smith.

Mrs R Ackroyd trained the children and pianist was Mrs. J. Bramley.

The service was followed by a tea, and later the film, “An act of faith,” about Coventry cathedral, was shown. Games and dancing followed.
