Died a Prisoner

Mrs D.M.Lawcock, who lives with her father and mother in law, Mr and Mrs L Lawcock, at 7 Church Street Conisbrough, has this week officially learned that her husband, Driver Colin Edwin Lawcock (29) of the Royal Corps of Signals died on February 23 1945, in Borneo, of beriberi and malaria, while a prisoner of war.

Driver Lawcock, who was an only child, had a drapery establishment in Rockingham Road, Swinton, before joining the Forces in March 1940.

He married in July that year and going abroad about a year later, was taken prisoner by the Japanese in February 1942.

Letter cards were received from him twice a year, the last in August last, from Kuching where he was originally interned, and later from Labuan.
