Dispute – Settlement of the Denaby Main Dispute.

December 1878

Mexborough Times, December 6.

Settlement of the Denaby Main Dispute.

The unfortunate dispute which has now been in existence about nine weeks was settled yesterday (Thursday).

It will be remembered for that in consequence of the manager having “stacked coal” set on additional men etc. The men took a “play” day without giving notice and hence the dispute.

The greater number of the men went to the colliery yesterday and signed, to commence work this (Friday) morning.

The terms on which work is be resumed is a reduction of 5% all-round, the manager on his part agreeing to thin out the men. 3 to work in a plain instead of 4 working and the banks to be 25 yards long instead of 16 yards as heretofore.
