Denaby United 6 Lincoln City Reserves 2
At Denaby, yesterday.
The home team made five changes from the side that went down so heavily at Bramall Lane. Right from the start Lincoln ran up, and F, Taylor swung in a fine centre for Marshall to clear. At the other end a lovely cross from Ball caused Buist to give a futile corner. Denaby were quickly attacking again, and Bennett drove in a tremendous shot which cannoned back with the goalkeeper knowing nothing it. Lincoln replied, and Hedley tried a shot which found Marshall’s head in the way, Lawley subsequently clearing. Hofton, for Denaby, missed open goal from point blank range, .with the goalkeeper , the ground. The next minute Bennett shot wide. Denaby continued to monopolise the attack. Lincoln broke away and forced a corner, from which Law netted without anyone touching the ball. In another visiting attack Barret shot over. The Lincoln goal experienced further narrow escapes, and following .a fine shot from Ball, which struck the cross-bar, Blackburn secured and gave the home team the lead.
At half-time Denaby led by a goal to nil.
Resuming, Denaby rained in shots, and Bennett scored after five minutes. At the other end Hancock brought off a clever save. Shortly after Hofton scored Denaby’s third goal, snapping up a fine centre from Ball who five minutes later netted a fourth. Lincoln improved, and twice in quick succession Hancock saved shots from Sharp and Barrett. Lincoln continued to show improved form and at last scored through Sharp.
From the centre kick Ball got away, and his centre found Bennett dead on the mark with a beautiful goal. Hofton got the sixth.
Just on time Bavin scored for Lincoln.
