Denaby Rating Case – The Assessment.
The Award.
The award in the very prolonged rating appeal of the Denaby and Cadeby Main Colliery Company, against the Union Assessment Committee, has now been issued.
Mr. Littler. Q.C., C.B. to whom the case was referred by the West Riding Quarter Sessions, has reduced the assessment of the Main Colliery from £23,919 to £16,543, and the Cadeby Colliery from £9,641 to £4,999. and has awarded costs the appellants.
The counsel engaged in the case were Sir. Edward Boyle and Mr. Norman Craig for the Colliery Company, and Mr. Alfred Young and Mr Bairstow for the Assessment Committee. The witnesses for the Colliery were Mr. G. Humphreys Davies. Mr. J Treherne Rees, Mr. W. H. Elwell and others.
