Assault Charge from Conisborough
Patrick Craig, miner, Conisborough, was summoned for assaulting Arthur Foseland, at Conisborough on November 22.
Complainant said at about 10:20 p.m. he was in his lodgings when defendant knocked at the door. One of the lodgers opened the door and defendant and two more men walked in. Defendant came across to witness and struck him under the jaw, knocking him out of his chair and in the course used him ” something brutal” whilst he was on the floor.
They had had no words, nor had there been any quarrel. Witness was the only Englishman in the house at the time, all the others being Irish.
Cross-examined: He did not insult defendant when he entered the house. Defendant and his companions had all had a drink. Witness did not strike or even speak to defendant.
The case was adjourned for further evidence.
