Conisboro’ V.C. Homecoming –I am a Lucky Fellow
Sgt Calvert, upon rising to respond, was received with loud and prolonged cheers.
“I am not much of a chap for talking,” he said, “but I´m going to try and thank you in a few words for what you have done for me.
All I can say is that when I set out that morning. I didn´t set out to win the award, but just to do my best.
It came my way and I was lucky enough to get it.
There is many a chap who has won the VC and has not got it. I was lucky enough to get it and to come back whole. (Laughter and applause.)
I cannot thank you enough, and I hope as long as I live I should do my best to be a credit to you for what you have done for me.”
