Yorkshire Fisheries Board

Important Prosecution

Has the Board Jurisdiction over Reservoirs?

Anglers should be greatly interested in a case heard at the Rotherham West Riding Petty Sessions yesterday, in which the Yorkshire catfish his Board prosecuted Mr Tom Nicholas, of Denaby and Mr Harry Cunby, of Rotherham for fishing for trout without a licence in Thrybergh Reservoir, belonging to the Doncaster Corporation.

That the case was of a most complicated description may be judged from the fact that it involves reference no fewer than 18 Acts of Parliament, and on the interpretation of those Acts many short passages occurred between the contending parties.

Defendants admitted that they were fishing for trout and that they had no licence, but denied the authority of the Fisheries Board to interfere in the matter.

Article continues with many statements, Arguments and reference to Acts of Parliament

At the end the Chairman said the Bench would deliver judgement in three weeks, and the case would accordingly be adjourned for that period.
