At London Remembrance

Among the parade of servicemen and women of all branches of the British Forces taking part in the Festival of Remembrance at the Albert Hall, London, on Saturday, was Conisbrough soldier, Corporal Roy Cockram (22), of 100, Daylands Avenue.

Corporal Cockram was one of the contingents of ex- Malaya based guardsmen representing the Army, and had the honour of parading before the Queen, Queen Mary, and Princess Margaret.

A former Conisbrough Modern School pupil, he worked for a time as a builder’s labourer before joining the Army at 17. He enlisted with the Coldstream Guards for five years and seven years on the reserve and is due for discharge next October. He went out to Malaya three years ago and was there for two years as a radio operator. His parents still do not exactly know where he was stationed, or anything of his experiences, for he has never told them.

Now stationed in Wellington Barracks he was married ten weeks ago to a Kensington girl. He is expected home again at Christmas.
