Food Committee
At Wednesday’s meeting of the Food Committee, the Chairman, Coun. T. Shephard and vice-chairman, Coun. B. Roberts, with committee, were re-elected en-bloc for the ensuing year.
The meeting dealt with an allegation that prices of fish and chips were extortionate.
A member of the committee, who is in the trade, refuted the allegation and gave figures to show that the trade was now paying almost three times as much for fish as before the war and the price of fat was 152 per cent higher.
The committee decided that the allegation was found, and one of the opinion that the tree was good and useful service to the community. Complaints were made that milk bottles were not been collected when empty and were left lying about the street with the result that a considerable number were broken by children, and it was decided to take the matter with the Education Authorities asking for their assistance in bringing to the notice of the children the serious nature of this offence.
It was stated that the supplies of fish come into the urban district of Conisbrough compared very favourably with those in other districts.
