A Brutal Attack

William Stacey, glass blower, Conisborough, a tall powerful man, was charged with assaulting Fanny Slater, a married woman, Conisborough, on July 5th.

The complainant said that she and the defendant’s wife had a few sharp words over a child and the defendant’s wife used threats towards her. In the middle of it the defendant came out of the house and struck witness on the right breast with his fist. She had her baby in her arms at the time.

Cross-examined by the defendant, she denied that she had behaved indecently before one of his children.

James Warren corroborated complainant’s evidence, and the defendant was fined 30s., including costs.
