A Careless Miner
Thomas Turner, a miner, formerly engaged at Denaby Main, pleaded guilty to an infringement of special rule 101, which referred to spragging, at Denaby, on the 25th of February last.
Prisoner absconded at the time, and had only just been arrested. He should have spragged his pit intervals of six feet apart, but when deputy visited his working on the day named his sprags were seven feet six inches apart, and was working a space two feet three inches, or a yard underneath, which was a danger both to himself and his trammer.
Fined 20s., including costs, or seven days.
