A Conisbrough Deserter

At Doncaster on Tuesday, John Thomas Peplow was charged with being a deserter from the Kings Own Light Infantry.

PC Barnett stated that at 10.30 on the previous night he apprehended the prisoner in Loversall Street, New Conisbrough, and charged him with being an absentee from the King’s Own Light Infantry since the third inst,, the regimental headquarters being at Pontefract.

He replied “I have nothing to say, only I want to get clear of the army.”

Committed to Wakefield Prison to await an escort.
