A Conisbrough Youth and his Employer

Thomas Bassingdale, a youth, farm labourer, of Conisborough was summoned under the Employer and Workmen Act, charge with having absented himself from his employment on the 11th, 12th, 14th and 16th inst., whilst in the service of William Bullas, farmer of Cudworth and 30s conversation was claimed.

Complainant said he hired the defendant at Doncaster statutes last November for one year, and he then told him he could carry a bag of corn. However, after he had been a short time he gave a week’s notice, but he was told he could not leave as he was engaged for a year.

The defendant said he was not strong enough to carry a bag of corn. Complainant replied that defendant had never had anything heavier to carry than a bag of chaff.

Defendant said he expected he would have, and so gave in his notice.

The defendant was ordered to pay reduced compensation 20s, and 11s costs, the contract been broken.
