A Dangerous Freak on the Railway at Conisborough

Alfred Barker, a boy living at Denaby was charged with having done wilful damage, on the railway at Conisborough.

Joseph Dugdale, railway detective, Sheffield, said he saw the defendant on the railway between Lowfield signal box and Conisborough Station. He was using a pick for the purpose of digging coal from underneath the sleepers, which by this mischief were loosened.

The Chairman said the result of the mischief might have been a serious accident. The boy was liable to be sent to prison, but as the company did not press the case, a fine of 11s., including costs, would have to be paid.
