A Denaby Collier and his Topcoat
Yesterday, at the Doncaster County Court, Samrel Corrie, tailor and draper, Sheffield, ciaimed £4. 18s. 11d. from Alfred Gaunt, collier, Denaby Main.
The defendant acknowledged owing part of the money, but said the point in dispute was with respect to an overcoat. He was measured in December, 1887, just about the time when the colliery head gear took fire.
He said he should not give more than 35s for a blue pilot topcoat. When the coat came the price was 55s., and he said he would not pay it.
The plaintiff told him he would ” chuck the coat in the fire beiore he would take it back.”
This the plaintiff denied.
His Honour gave a verdict for the plaintiff for the amount claimed, the defendant being unable to bring confirmatory evidence as to his statement
