A Deserter At Denaby
James Roberts, abode not stated, was charged in custody with deserting from the Royal Artillery, at Preston.
Prisoner pleaded guilty. Supt. Blake stated that he had telegraphed to the commanding officer at Preston, and he replied that an escort would arrive on Monday morning.
P.c. Lockwood stated that the previous evening the prisoner surrendered himself to him at Denaby; he stated that he was a deserter from the Royal Artillery at Preston. He had searched the Police Gazette, and found the prisoner’s name and description was amongst the deserters.
Remanded to await an escort.
