Sheffield Independent – Monday 29 May 1899
A Scene at Conisbro’.
A Cornsbro,’ miner, named Joseph Goodridge, was summoned at Doncaster on Saturday for assaulting Annie Moon, a married woman, on May 22
The complainant, who had a black eye, said the defendant gave it her when she knocked at the door of his house to call for a relative.
Defendant denied the charge.
He said he civilly asked the woman to go away, because his wife was very weak owing to a recent confinement, that the complainant then entered the house and struck him and that he only ejected her.
Evidence having been called on both sides, the case was dismissed.
