A Veteran Teacher
Dr. Lang’s Tribute to Mrs. Kaye, Denaby.
Mrs. Kaye has just retired from the headship of Denaby Church England Schools, at the age of 65, having spent close upon half century in school work. The occasion has not been allowed to go by without substantial marks of the appreciation which Mrs. Kaye has earned in the district, and leaving the school in which she has-been engaged for the last 25 years.
A purse of gold and an illuminated address were presented her Mr. W. H. Chambers, managing director of the Denaby and Cadeby Collieries Company Limited, on behalf of the managers the school and the clergy and churchwardens of the district.
Mrs. Kaye has for some years infused enthusiasm into the “Lady Mary” Habitation (Mexborough) of the Primrose League. For quite a number of years she had the distinction of being the only lady parish clerk in the country.
On her retirement from school life she received a kindly and encouraging letter from the Archbishop of York, in which his Grace said:
“I know that you gave all your life to the service of the Church in its schools and that you have done it as a labour of love and because you felt it was a high honour to be allowed influence its children.
You may sure that such service is known and valued by Him in whose honour all our service is done. As His representative in the rule of the Church in this diocese, I would like to send you this message of gratitude for all you have done.”
