A Violent Wath Miner at Denaby

On Monday, at the Doncaster West Riding Police Court, John Ward, miner of Wath on Dearne was charged with being drunk and disorderly, assaulting the police, and refusing to quit the Denaby Main Hotel on Saturday night.

Between half past nine and 10 o’clock on Saturday night, prisoner went to the hotel drunk, and when the waiter asked him to go out threw the latter into the street, knocked him down with his face and kicked him.

PC Fletcher was fetched, and on the way to the police station a constable was kicked and scratched in the face by the prisoner.

For being drunk and disorderly, prisoner was fined 40/– including costs or seven days, for the assault on the police he was committed to prison for a month, and for refusing to quit was ordered to pay the costs, 12/6, or in default another seven days imprisonment.
