A Young Thief at Denaby

Albert Ross, aged 14, was fined 20 shillings, including costs, for having on the 3rd inst stolen a silver watch, value £5 5s. the property of Martin Coyne, collier

The watch wan taken from the prosecutor’s waistcoat, when hanging from a prop in the Denaby Colliery.

The Chairman stated that if the defendant had been under 14 years old a ” birching ” would have been ordered.
