Action for Damages for Assault at Conisborough.

Yesterday at the County Court, Doncaster, Henry Oxley, aged 60 years, sued a young man named Alfred Lee, both of Conisborough, for five guineas damages for an assault committed in August last.

Mr. Baddiley appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Edwards defended.

The plaintiff stated that on the day in question he had been to the Fox Inn. The defendant was there. There was some talk about a debt of £40. After he had left he found that the defendant was following him. Presently the young man overtook him and knocked him down, leaving him “for dead.”

He was picked up by Patrick M’Hale, of Edlington, and was taken to the surgery of Dr. M’Call.

The evidence was very conflicting, and the Judge stopped the case with a verdict for the defendant with costs.
