Adventures in Greece
News of her son, Sapper Austin Dunn (30), has been received by Mrs. Dunn, Warren Road, Conisbrough, from a Greek officer serving in the Middle East.
The officer reveals that Sapper Dunn evaded capture during the fall of Greece and managed to get to Sparta, where he was given shelter and food for seven months by the family of the Greek officer. Ultimately, his whereabouts having been discovered, he was taken prisoner by the Italians and sent to a concentration camp.
Subsequently the officer escaped from Greece and got to the Middle East, where he immediately wrote the letter. Mrs. Dunn heard from her son a few weeks ago, the letter coming from a prison camp. He says he is perfectly fit.
Prior to joining the R.E.’s, Sapper Dunn worked at Messrs. Whittaker, Main Street, Mexborough.
