Advice From the Bench
On Tuesday at Doncaster, George Moore, a miner, of Conisborough, was fined 20/– for assaulting Alfred Lowe, landlord of the Station Hotel, Conisborough, and a further 20/– for having been disorderly and refusing to quit.
Defendant’s wife, who appeared pleaded guilty on her husband’s behalf, said he had been a prisoner of war, have been twice wounded and gassed, and when he got a drop of beer it affected him. She had to be careful when he was like that she added.
The Chairman, Mr W Hinchliffe, said he had better give up the beer altogether, and the wife said that that was her advice too, to him.
