Fighter Pilot

Residents of Denaby and Conisbrough will be pleased to learn of the success and promotion of Mr G. Moorhouse, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J Moorhouse, of Hillcrest, Elm Green Lane, Conisbrough, who has now been commissioned a pilot officer (fighter pilot) in the RAF

Pilot Officer Moorhouse is 20 and was born in Denaby Main (where his father is in business as a chemist). He was educated at the local elementary school, the Modern School at Conisbrough and Mexborough secondary school.

After leaving the secondary school he was appointed a premium apprentice to engineering at the L.N.E.R.works at Doncaster.

In July 1940 he volunteered for the R.A.F. and now, after much hard work and study in the new sphere of work, he has realised his ambition and his commission was granted about two weeks ago.

Pilot Officer Moorhouse is well known locally as an organist and has often assisted at anniversary services at the Epworth Hall as pianist and organist. He was the deputy organist before enlistment of the Wesley Methodist Chapel at Conisbrough and has played there when home on leave

He was a member of Conisbrough operatic Society and his musical abilities have been useful entertain his comrades since enlistment. He has now gone abroad.
