Alleged Illegal Sale of Fireworks at Conisborough

Charles Brown, labourer, Conisborough was summoned for sale of some “crackers” to a girl named Polly Hartley, she being under 13 years of age, at Conisborough on the third inst.

Polly Arthur said she went to the defendant’s shop on the third inst, and bought some fireworks, and a boy let them off.

In answer to Mr Palmer witness said that the defendant’s daughter supplied her with the fireworks.

For the defence Amelia Hardy, the defendant’s daughter, said she was the manager for the shop, and she never sold any fireworks to girl named Hartley on the third inst or at any other time.

Defendant said he had another witness, when the Chairman intimated that it was unnecessary to call any more witnesses, as they had decided to dismiss the case.
