Alleged Misappropriation of Strike Funds

On Saturday, at the Doncaster West Riding Police Court, before Mr. G. B. C. Yarborough and other magistrates, Isaac Cooper, miner, Denaby, was brought up in custody on a charge of stealing £13 3s. 9d., moneys which he, as a collector, should have handed over to the Denaby and Cadeby Strike Committee.

Mr. O. W. Andrews prosecuted, and asked for a remand until Tuesday. It was stated that the prisoner was appointed a collector on the 1st of August. On that date he was sent to Hickleton Main to bring back the money collected at that pit for the men on strike at Denaby.

It was alleged that he received £13 3s. 9d., which he should have handed over to the treasurer of the fund, James Casey. A warrant was issued by the latter on the 4th of August, and prisoner was apprehended on Friday.

Prisoner, who said he would rather be tried that day, was remanded until to-morrow.
