Alleged Murderous Wife Assault.
An assault of a shocking character is reported from Denaby.
It is said that, on Saturday evening, a miner named George Hamilton, who had been imbibing far too freely during the day, on reaching home commenced to quarrel with his wife, and that, after using strong language to her, he picked up his gun—for he had for many years been a gamekeeper—and murderously attacked her with the butt-end thereof.
Her screams, we are told, attracted the attention of some neighbours, who state that, but for their timely interference, they fear the woman would have been killed.
We understand that the matter is in the hands of the police.
